YAG Laser Capsulotomy

YAG laser capsulotomy is surgery you may need sometime after cataract surgery. You may need this surgery because months or years after cataract surgery, your vision may become cloudy again.

When you have cataract surgery, your ophthalmologist removes your eye's cloudy lens. It is replaced with a clear, artificial intraocular lens (IOL). The IOL is held in place in your eye's natural lens capsule. This capsule can become cloudy, causing blurry vision. This is called posterior capsule opacification (PCO) and it may seem like you're developing a "second cataract." With posterior capsulotomy, a laser is used to make an opening in the cloudy capsule to bring about clear vision again.
